Sarah's story: MidSouth

BaseCamp athlete Sarah Porch shared her experience at the 2025 MidSouth event in Stillwater, Oklahoma.

MidSouth and Stillwater are special because of the communities they’ve created. As visitors during a wildfire emergency, we followed the flow of information from the local authorities and the event organizers. The 50K run ended early on Friday due to high winds. Runners were picked up from the course as fires rapidly broke out. The bike race on Saturday was canceled as fires worsened overnight. My group had gotten a couple of rides in before the event and then on Sunday on an alternate route provided by the race organizers. Love those OK dirt roads. 🧡 We listened to bands there for the event on an impromptu stage at Stonecloud Stillwater. While we were there Jacob Keen finished his longest ride since losing his lower leg after being struck by a car while riding. Such resilience. There are many ways to support Stillwater, but here is a link to donate to the Payne County United Way.
