Rachelle's story: South Mountain Cycle & Cafe Criterium

BaseCamp alumnus Rachelle Gehr shared her experience at the South Mountain Cycle & Cafe Criterium in Trexlertown, Pennsylvania.

Smiles for miles as I rolled up to the line for my first attempt at back-to-back crits. Took 1st in the 35+ master race that was combined with 50+category. Then hung on to the lead group for the cat 3/4 for the final sprint finish... just didn't have it in the tank to out sprint the 16y.o. who won, but still pulled off 4th.

Seeing that Amber Neben practices what she preaches is so very inspiring as she goes out of her comfort zone to get down and dirty! It has encouraged me to try these crit races as the women's TT fields keep shrinking and it's fun! My sister asked why does it look like I'm talking in the photo where I'm shutting down an attack? Noticed I'm "blowing out the candles," which is cool to see it now happens naturally for me when I'm at my max!
