Mike's story: De Ronde van Grampian Gravel Race

BaseCamp alumnus Mike Adsit shared his experience at the inaugural De Ronde van Grampian Gravel Race in Leonard, Michigan.

New event, close to home, well organized. Will be an annual. 25 & 50-mile option. Super humid, 91%. Challenging road terrain, some single track. I was the oldest entry, only 70+. First gravel race for me. Dropped rear wheel in a rut, bent derailleur, lost three low gears. Had to hike two climbs. Missed a turn, cost me 10 minutes. Different animal than road race. Hard to determine where to burn matches. Stayed out of the red zone. Really toasted my legs with all the rollers. Did the best I could at this point in my training. Back to TT and road race in 10 days. Thanks, Coach Jim. It was fun.
