BaseCamp member Garry Kirkland shared his experience at the 2023 Makaha Time Trial in Mākaha, Hawaii, on February 11.
I came to play. I feel like I had a successful TT. I had a PR on the course, despite having a flat tire at the very end, and recovering from a cold/flu/Covid. My heart was there (literally at Threshold the whole time) but I could not bring my power levels up to match. Then the windiness of the morning, and the ultra stacked 30-45 yo age group meant I could only grab 10th place on the day (somewhere in the low 30s overall). A somewhat lame outcome for an extraordinary amount of planning, commitment, and training.
